Quimperlé: From the Lower Town’s Arches to the Upper Town’s Open Squares
Quimperlé is arranged around the junction of the Isole and Ellé rivers, a meeting point that creates the town’s distinctive split between an upper and lower quarter. The Abbey Church of Sainte‑Croix, with its rare circular plan and Romanesque massing, anchors the lower town, where stone bridges and arcaded passages follow the water’s course. Climbing toward the upper town, the streets open into brighter squares and civic buildings that shape a different rhythm, more elevated both literally and atmospherically.
